Nancy Field is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA), a Behavior and Training Professional Member of the Pet Professional Guild, and an Approved Evaluator for the AKC Canine Good Citizen test. She has been a Professional Member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers since 1997.
Her lifelong passion for animals led to a unique combination of education and experience. During her college years, while completing a B.A. in Biology, she spent summers as a keeper’s aide for the Children’s Zoo at the Bronx Zoo, and worked with horses as a groom at Finger Lakes Racetrack and at boarding stables in Westchester. She began working professionally with dogs in 1994, after completing a six-month dog training apprenticeship with the ASPCA’s behavior department.
Nancy is committed to force-free, reward-based training methods; her goal is to foster and enhance the human/canine relationship while building willing compliance. She continues to expand her knowledge of the latest training methods through extensive reading, and by attending numerous seminars and workshops covering a wide range of training topics.
She has competed in rally and obedience trials with her Labrador Retrievers, Emma (Legacy’s Mrs. Peel, RA, RL3, CD-C), and Nigel (Matego Nigel CGC, RN, RL3), who was titled to the third and highest level in APDT Rally (now WCRL) and earned an award of excellence and a top-20 national ranking. She also trained Emma for agility competition. Her young dog, Myrna (Chilbrook Martini Noir), has earned the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy certification, and the AKC Trick Dog titles through the Advanced level.
In addition to providing private training through Harmony Dog Training, Nancy teaches group classes in White Plains, NY, at Port Chester Obedience Training Club.
